for Woodbury County Supervisor, 2020
I am proud to be born and raised in Sioux City, Iowa, and even prouder to be the third generation of a law enforcement family. As a retired Sioux City Police Officer and Detective, I know this much is true: I am here to serve.
Vote for me, Kevin McCormick, for Woodbury County Supervisor, and you vote for the safety, health and well-being of all Woodbury County residents.
LOCAL BUSINESS OWNER
For years, I owned my own small business: McCormick Construction. I worked hard to be successful as I faced the challenges of day-to-day operations, taxes in all forms, insurance legalities, and managing employees. Most importantly, I worked hard to be a productive and ethical member of the Sioux City business community. I understand the worries of sustaining both a business and a family as a local business owner, even through the best of economies. Unfortunately, our economy faces a crisis like we've never seen before, and I assure you: I am dedicated to helping prop up, rebuild and grow our local businesses through these unprecedented times.
As a former contractor, I will use my knowledge of business and construction to ensure best practices are being followed and commonsense decisions are being made while we build the new Law Enforcement Center. I promise to practice fiscal responsibility as we oversee the budget and invest in all other county projects. I will make certain that the money from our residents’ pockets is spent wisely.
LAW ENFORCEMENT CAREER
I began my eight years of service at the Sioux City Police Department at age 33. As a police officer I worked diligently to serve and protect the citizens of Siouxland. When not on patrol, I often served Sioux City through community policing events: Coffee with a Cop, Shop with a Cop, local parades and festivals, reading to elementary school classrooms and Bike Rodeos were many of my favorites.
While a detective with the Police Department, I dove deep into my cases to find facts surrounding the crime but also worked to bring much needed support to the victims and families involved. I was especially committed to our youth and dedicated myself to several mentoring programs. I spent years partnering with our community schools and district to ensure and support our children’s safety, education and overall well-being.
I sincerely enjoyed both aspects of my career in law enforcement, and I am grateful that this career afforded me the opportunity to say I know this community. I know who we are, what challenges we face, what our struggles are, what we do well. And what I don’t know, I will strive to learn. I will learn by reaching out, by meeting with folks and businesses of all background and types. I will learn by listening, and I will do everything possible to ensure your continued safety, health and well-being.
